A Great Saint was born on 9th Bhadon Shukla, 1551
Vikrami, in Nankana Sahib in the house of Great Saint
Shri Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj. He came to Kashmir at the age
of 11 and received education in Vedas and Shashtras. In
a short period of seven years he wrote his commentary on
all the four Vedas known as “CHANDRA BHASHAY”. Within a
short span of time, he became a saint of high order and
attained full spiritual knowledge. He revived the Udasin
sect. over the years this Sect. has acquired its own
distinctive characteristics in the country and more
particularly in the State of Jammu and Kashmir. The
teachings of Jagat Guru Shri Chander Ji are being
followed not only by the members of the sect. but even
by Hindus in general. At Srinagar a temple has already
been built in memory of the Great Saint and offerings
are made by the believers of the sect. at the temple
which is popularly known as Shri Chander Chinar Temple.
Its affairs are managed by a trust known as Shri
Chander Chinar Bada Akhara Udasin Trust.
accordance with the teachings of Jagat Guru Shri Chander
Ji Maharaj who believed in spread of education, the
members of the trust resolved to form a society namely
Shri Chander Chinar Bada Akhara Udasin Society to
set up a Medical College and Hospital for the benefit of
the Humanity, besides undertaking other charitable
works. Accordingly, with the recommendations of the
Jammu and Kashmir Government and approval of Government
of India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on the
recommendations of the Medical council of India,
Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences &
Hospital Complex with 550 beds and
232 Doctors has been
established at Sidhra, Jammu to provide quality medical
education to the students admitted to MBBS Course.
The first batch of 100 students in the first year MBBS
was admitted in the year 1996- 97 and subsequent batches
with the approval of competent authorities have been
admitted thereafter. Based on the inspection conducted
by Medical Council of India at the time of final
examination of 1st Batch, the College has been given
permanent recognition by the Govt. of India, Ministry of
Health & Family Welfare (Dept. of Health).
The College and Hospital are located at picturesque,
pollution free hill slope above river Tawi at Sidhra,
Jammu. The distance of college and hospital is 8 km
from Railway Station, 15 km from Airport and 10 km from
General Bus Stand, Jammu.
The College is affiliated to the University of Jammu,
Jammu. The College has been recognized by the Ministry
of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, on the
recommendations of the Medical Council of India vide
their letter no. 11015/2/2002-ME(Policy-I) dated

Status by the J&K Government vide Govt. order No.
940-HME of 1997 dated 27-10-1997.

10 seats to be filled from economically weaker
sections, selected by BOPEE.
40 seats payment category selected by BOPEE.
40 seats (Management quota) on merit prepared on the
basis of Common Entrance Test Conducted by the
Association of Pvt. Unaided Medical & Dental Colleges
of J&K. C/O ASCOMS, SIDHRA, JAMMU.
10 seats are to be filled from the NRI management
Out of 50 payment seats to be filled by the College on
merit prepared on the basis of Common Entrance Test,
15 seats under category-I will be filled on the basis of
merit out of the candidates from any community belonging
to Jammu & Kashmir or outside the State, and 25
seats under category-II will be filled on the basis of
merit out of the candidates of recognized sect. of
minority belonging to
Jammu & Kashmir State.
